Skin ::: Innovative Sofa Collection ::: by Molteni&C

 
I found this sofa while browsing the net recently and just saw it again today on the Design Milk blog, so I had to share this uber cool sofa collection by Molteni&C. The Skin collection was designed by French architect Jean Nouvel for Molteni&C and consists of a sofa, loveseat, arm chair and ottoman.  The design is super innovative and sculptural, the decorative leather seating area is structured and suspended using an aluminum tubular frame. It's extremely light, compact and so very, very chic!

Dante Marioni ~ Transforming Traditional Form into Modern Glass Sculpture!

Originally from Mill Valley, Ca. glass artist Dante Marioni moved to Seattle with his family at age 15 where he began to learn the art of glassblowing with his father, Paul Marioni, who was one of the pioneers of the American studio glass movement. With Glass Masters such as Lino Tagliapietra, Benjamin Moore and Richard Marquis as his mentors, Dante learned from the best and has become one of the most accomplished glass blowers in the United States, producing beautifully crafted work that has been a part of several notable collections including  the White House Collection of American Crafts. Dante is known for his mastery of Venetian glassblowing techniques and transforms traditional vessels into modern glass sculpture focusing on elegant form, brilliant color and beautiful patterns!

 

Modern Ceramic Lamps ~ By Mamati

These modern lamps are made by Italian company Mamati. Designer T.Menozzi has created a very stylish and elegant collection of ceramic lamps that are all hand made using a special technique. They come in different sizes, shapes and colors and the smooth lines are very modern and would go nicely with most interiors. Mamati also has a collection of vases, bowls, trays and art that compliment these lamps beautifully! I'm looking forward to seeing more from this company!

A "Spin" on Modern Furniture ~ From Moroso/Diesel & Bughouse!

 
When you think of the company Diesel, shoes and jeans probably come to mind, but Diesel has actually expanded their brand to include an extensive line of furniture, lighting and home textiles. Teaming with furniture design company Moroso, they have come up with super hip pieces as a part of their Successful Living Collection . Check out the teaser below!

Bughouse Art and Design have got me buggin' over their quirky music inspired furniture pieces and art! Their Scratch DJ Coffee Table is photo transfer on knotty pine with aluminum legs and has an option for a glass top or poly-resin coating finish. The Album Side Table is a photographic reproduction of  a grouping of record jackets on birch plywood coated in poly-resin with aluminum legs.  Artisans/Designers, Rebecca Johnson and Jeff Klarin obviously share a passion for art, music and furniture design and have found a fun way to fuse the three together creating hip art and furniture that any DJ or music enthusiast would love!

Karim For Alloy ~ Modern Metal Tile!

Australian based company Alloy Design and  designer Karim Rashid have come together to collaborate on a brand new line of modern metal tile. Karim designed the collection to be organic in shape and to contradict the typical square tile. There are eight different patterns and five different finishes. Each tile is punched from a solid sheet of metal resulting in a seamless, hardwearing product that is not only chic, but is sure to last.  Available at Ann Sacks in the US, but distributed globally.

Acrila ~ Modern Furniture with a Funky Twist!

Acrila is a modern furniture company from France, founded by Jean Christophe Bernard and partner Isabelle Bernard, that designs acrylic furniture in a very innovative and edgy way. Creating incredibly stylish and fun designs, but at the same time still maintaining the functionality of their pieces.

 
By fusing imagery with acrylic, Acrila has given us a fresh, "sky is the limit" type approach on furniture design. Seems like they could easily apply this concept to the Varia eco-resin materials from 3-Form. I've worked a lot with this material and LOVE IT!!

 

These are some of my favorites from Acrila, but be sure to check their site to view other more funky collections. Also, check out their other company Tense'it which applies the same technique and concept to architectural wall and ceiling installations...very cool!!
